For a dog that actually runs. Course times were 45–51 s on the sampled block, so roughly 40 s of every slot is turnaround: dog in, dog out, judge reset, scribe.
| Entries that never run | −10% |
| Grade | -1.2% per grade |
| Fixed cost per class | +2.5 min |
| Next height, same course | +5 min |
| Course rebuilt | +25 min |
A grade band — G1-3, 5,6,7, C3-5 — is taken at its middle: a combined class runs at about the average of its field, so G1-3 counts as grade 2 and G5,6,7 as grade 6. Combined or split makes no difference to time, only to who gets the rosettes. The no-show figure applies to entry counts only; dogs you have counted at the ring are all going to run. It was measured on a weekend that was 26.9 °C with no rain, so it is the dry-weather rate. A wet day withdraws more, and classes then run quicker than this model expects.
| Height | Run time | Slot |
|---|---|---|
| Large | -4% | ×0.984 |
| Intermediate | -5% | ×0.978 |
| Medium | +1% | ×1.006 |
| Small | +10% | ×1.045 |
On the same course, Small dogs run about 10% slower than the course block's median and Large and Intermediate 3–5% faster — a 13% spread, across every course block of the calibration show, and the judges' own course times say the same. Only the run scales with height; the turnaround does not, and it is over half the slot. So a 13% spread in run time is about a 6% spread in the slot, which is what the factors are. It makes almost no difference to start-time accuracy, because heights alternate within a ring and the differences cancel down it; it makes a couple of minutes' difference to how long one Small class takes. One honest caveat: the same arithmetic predicts the jumping factor to within a point, but for height the class-level data is too thin to confirm it — the factors are derived from run times, not yet measured on class durations.
